Get in the Mood: Moodboard

To prepare the moodboard for this project, I consulted industry blogs on the purpose and style of moodboards for film here and here.

I made a conscious decision that this video montage would aim to evoke emotion through visual metaphor related to the theme of maintaining a sense of personal self-assurance and equilibrium rather than telling a literal story (e.g. requiring characterisation) - however, I did want to have a sense of the struggles we (and maybe particularly women and children) can face over the life span, from a loss of innocence to a reconnection with wisdom and freedom in later life.

I wanted a clear contrast between dark and light - supported by shifts in light and colour, moving towards a sense of release, freedom and wisdom in the final frames.

I wanted this to evoke sense of a wise woman at sea looking over a life well lived, for all its troubles, without minimising the difficulty or pain inherent in serious social issues like bullying, interpersonal violence or social repression of women's sexuality.

The moodboad aims to hold some of these contradictions and to move from an oppressive, dark atmosphere to something more natural, open and expansive in order to  achieve an overall feel of uplift and peace, while retaining hints to the vastness of the sea and the power of the elements of fire, air and water..
