Mindmap

While planning this piece, I was engaged in a five session training programme on “Getting Started with Restorative Practice” in my new role as part of an Inclusive Support Space Team at Cork Educate Together consulted a range of literature on the use of Restorative Practice, stretching over ten weeks. I have also been completing a PgDip in Inclusive and Special Educational Needs which has required me to reflect on teacher practice in the design of inclusive classrooms in secondary mainstream school settings.

As part of these trainings, I consulted a range of academic and practitioner focused literature on the use of Restorative Practices in schools ahead of creation of this final mindmap.

I also looked at exemplars of videos used in other trainings around behaviour and discipline that focus on compassion. I was particularly impressed with this video in which a practitioner, Pat Friman, shares a change in perspective in a series on professional failure

A key question for me in designing this piece was how to make it different from and more engaging than written text and academic articles. The outcome of this process was that I felt it would be important to focus in this project on obtaining a personal, story based perspective on a practitioner’s experience of engaging in Restorative Practices and its impact on their personal and professional lives.
